EXPLORATORY ACTION RESEARCH

NAME: VINOD.U

DESIGNATION: S.G.T

WORKING PLACE: M.P.P.S, KARLAM,                                                    CHEEPURUPALLI MANDAL,

                                   VIZIANAGARAM DISTRICT.

STATE:  ANDHRA PRADESH

This is  Vinod from Andhra Pradesh, working as a primary teacher.Little ones are those who create this world into new generation.Their hand writing also take part in this creation. Hand writing motivates them in reading, recognising them as bright ones.Gives hope to their future goals.

Actually my hand writing is not good. That's why I motivate children to improve their hand writing from their childhood onwards.

It is easier to bend a sapling than a tree. From the primary level, if we focus on hand writing, they will definitely improve their listening, speaking and reading skills also.

Now I am going to share my Exploratory Action Research on "Hand Writing"  for Class 5.

Research Questions

Myself:

* Am I taking steps to improve students hand         writing?

* Am I writing proper punctuation marks while       writing on the Black Board?

Students:

* Are you interested in to improve your hand         writing?

* Are you able to write proper punctuation            marks?

* Do you have any idea where to use                     uppercase and lower case?

* Do you know where to use full stop and comma( Punctuation marks) ?

* Are students showing difference between word to word by giving gap?

* Are students writing copy writing books for better improvement?

Parents:

* Do parents show interest in children's hand writing?

* Do parents check children's home work? Whether they are doing or not?

Teachers:

* What techniques do my colleagues apply to improve students writing?

* What are the activities they use to improve students hand writing?

Data Collection

Students:

# They are interested to improve their hand writing.

# Some of them are confusing in usage of proper punctuation marks.

# Students focus mainly on completion of the writing task, not on each and every letter they write. ie; where to use upper case and lower case.

# Most of the students are giving word to word gap

# Most of the students are writing copy writing books

Here are some sample writings of Children:

Above writing, The student didn't give any space between words. There are no punctuation marks.

In this writing, Student should write in a straight line.

Parents:

# Most of the parents are farmers and labours. Due to illiteracy, they don't focus on children's hand writing.

# Some of the parents send their children to tutions.

# Few are interested in checking children's note books.

Teachers:

# To get interest in writing, they draw pictures through letters.

# Encourage them to write atleast 2 paragraphs per a day.

# Conduct hand writing competitions.

Myself:

# Encourage the children to give gap between word to word.

# Create awareness towards punctuation marks.

# Suggest children to write slowly and neatly.

ANALYSIS

After analysis, I noticed that some of the children are not interested in writing . Some of the children are aware of punctuation marks.

I came to know that ,some of the parents are not spending time with their children in studies.

Here are few pie charts I noticed

I observed my 5th class students.

There are 38 students in my class.

9 students are not interested in writing.

29 students are interested in writing

14 students are not aware of punctuation marks.
24 students are aware of punctuation marks.

Here,  copy writing practice of the student

Conclusion

Atlast, I knew that to motivate children to write copy writing books. Try to conduct hand writing competitions and give atleast 2 paragraphs for writing. By Alloting marks for hand writing, children come forward to improve and conscious about their hand writing. Keep an eye on their hand writing and punctuation marks.

Yes. We must have to admit this.
Even though, the topic may look like a minimal one for others, as teachers we know how much we struggle to develop students' handwriting skills.
You did great work to find out the reasons behind the lack of good handwriting.
